Properties of 2D Shapes 🔷
All 2D shapes have special features that help us identify them:
Sides
Straight edges that form the boundary of a shape. Each side connects to another side.
Vertices (Corners)
Points where two sides meet. The plural of vertex is vertices.
Angles
The space between two sides meeting at a vertex. Angles are measured in degrees.
Symmetry
When a shape can be divided into two identical halves that mirror each other.
Common 2D Shapes 🔷
Triangle
Triangles have three sides and three angles. The sum of all angles is 180°.
Quadrilateral
Quadrilaterals have four sides. Common types include squares, rectangles, parallelograms, and trapezoids.
Pentagon
A pentagon has five sides and five angles. The sum of all angles is 540°.
Hexagon
A hexagon has six sides and six angles. The sum of all angles is 720°.
Circle
A circle has no straight sides or corners. It has one curved side and a center point.
